Listen, from the moment an ape picked up a thigh bone
The fate of the planet was placed into the unknown
Within a blink along the planetary timeline
Human beings developed to dominate, once considered
Fate and the Divine, now known of the decline
Of the overall health of the planet can be defined
Of humankind’s rise to prominence, global dominance
Wealth inequity is a Tragedy of the Commons
So ironic, how we’re the cause and effect
Deserving of a moment now to pause and reflect
How we got here, overhunting thanks to gluttony
Look around, see resources depleting suddenly
An unfortunate side effect of the evolved
Inherently flawed, way too many queries to solve
Resources are limited, free thought is prohibited
Yet, as a human I must remain inquisitive
Technology, both a tool and a crutch
Solutions to forward movement like double dutch
It’s all timing, will we come through in the clutch?
Or will it all fade away like dust?
I don’t know
Yo we started off small
First you walk then you crawl
Came up and you changed the world
We came from the dirt, all the changes to earth
For better or worse, man we changed the world
We can thrive, we can fly
If we learn from the past and apply
From cavemen to spacemen we made mistakes
But it ain’t too late
We can change the world
Embrace the hunger to explore what’s unknown
Build a better future by sliding back like trombones
And then blasting forward without control, like animals
Using the tools wrong, not consulting the manual
Blame our social nature and devotion to our missions
But use that skill to build a world without divisions
With knowledge in abundance, we start by thinking clearer
With guidance from the past, glancin’ through the mirror
We rose from primordial soup, outcompeting through the creed
Self awareness, contemplating “to be”
But recently in the timeline we had an explosion
Of technological feats of scientific devotion
We propel the few light years just to pursue
Our dreams of finding other like-beings to share the view
Through the hardships, begin to assail, we prevail
Through the economies of scale, we rise and pierce the veil
Of colonizing the stars, refusing to ever fail
Rise as high on the Kardashev Scale as we can scale
A cultural evolution, amplifying the future
The literal sky is the limit, now it’s time to get it
Yo we started off small
First you walk then you crawl
Came up and you changed the world
We came from the dirt, all the changes to earth
For better or worse, man we changed the world
We can thrive, we can fly
If we learn from the past and apply
From cavemen to spacemen we made mistakes
But it ain’t too late
We can change the world
From stone age apes with rage so stone-hearted
To the information age, yet constantly outsmarted
So in the space age we’ll fly. But without a direction
We need a new age, one of reflection
So here’s a goal that we can bond with, consider it
Planetary consciousness, to new horizons
The best time for action: right this second
Strategize tactics, uniting all the factions
From cavemen to spacemen
We done made mistakes, and
It ain’t too late
We can change the world
From cavemen to spacemen
We done made mistakes, yeah
But it ain’t too late
We can change the world
